The Philippine national ice hockey team continues to impress in the 2024 IIHF World Championships Division 3B with a commanding 14-2 victory over Iran in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The team’s forwards, Kenwrick Sze and Steven Füglister, led the charge with remarkable performances, each recording hat tricks along with multiple assists.

The first period saw an explosive offensive display from the Philippine team, with Sze, Füglister, Jan Aro Regencia, Eishner “EJ” Sibug, and captain Manvil Billones all finding the back of the net. Despite a goal from Iran’s Arshia Ghafoori in the second period, the Philippine team maintained its dominance, extending their lead with goals from Sibug, Patrick Abis, and Benjamin “BJ” Imperial.

The third period saw the Philippine team continue their relentless attack, with Sibug, Füglister, and Sze adding more goals to seal the victory. With a total of 50 shots on goal compared to Iran’s 19, the Philippine team showcased their offensive prowess throughout the game.

Head coach Juhani Ijäs led the team to another impressive victory, outmaneuvering Iran’s coach Sami Karppinen in a matchup between two Finnish coaches. Steven Füglister’s outstanding performance earned him the player of the game honors, reaching a milestone of 100 points for the national team.

With their second win of the tournament secured, the Philippine team looks ahead to their next challenge against the host country, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on Monday, February 26.
