The Go For Gold Criterium Race is scheduled to take place in Clark
The Go For Gold Criterium Race Series 1 is set to commence on March 3, taking place on the Iconic Sacobia Bridge in Clark, Pampanga. This event aims to discover the next generation of cycling talents, drawing riders from the nation’s top teams as well as budding cyclists eager to showcase their skills on the high-velocity, one-day race held on the iconic orange-painted bridge.
The 1.6-kilometer closed road course provides a rare opportunity for both seasoned riders and up-and-coming talents to prove themselves and potentially launch their careers in the sport of cycling.
Jeremy Go, founder of Go For Gold, expressed the organization’s commitment to organizing safe and well-run races to elevate the sport of cycling in the Philippines and identify promising talents.
Supported by Go For Gold, Scratchit, Magene, SPN Cycle, Booster C Energy Shot, Hytera, and NLEX-SCTEX, along with partners such as the Integrated Cycling Federation of the Philippines (PhilCycling), the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), and Clark Development Corp. (CDC), the race aims to promote and develop cycling in the country.
The event will feature various categories including men’s and women’s under-23 and elite, as well as youth and junior categories for both men and women. Participants will compete on the out-and-back racecourse, with race durations ranging from 15 minutes plus two laps for women youth to 45 minutes plus three laps for men under-23 and elite.
The Go For Gold Criterium Race Series consists of three legs, with races planned in Cebu and Mindanao in the coming months. Professional squads have already begun enlisting for the event, with the 21-man Go For Gold cycling team poised to be one of the teams to watch.
Ednalyn Hualda, project director of Go For Gold, emphasized the importance of encouraging more organizers to hold local cycling races to provide opportunities for promising cyclists, especially considering the lack of races since the pandemic in 2020.
