In a recent interview with El Objective de La Sexta, Rafael Nadal lauded his long-standing rival Novak Djokovic as the finest player in tennis history, citing Djokovic’s remarkable record of 24 Grand Slam titles, which surpassed Nadal’s 22 after clinching the French Open last year. Despite Djokovic’s unparalleled success on the court, Nadal acknowledged the challenges the Serbian star faces in garnering widespread popularity off the court, attributing it to misconceptions about Djokovic’s character.

Nadal expressed his belief that Djokovic’s public image doesn’t accurately reflect his true nature, insisting that Djokovic is, in fact, a good person. Nadal also praised Djokovic’s resilience and mental fortitude, highlighting his ability to quickly bounce back from moments of frustration and deliver exceptional performances on the court.

Amidst his own injury struggles and recent setbacks, Nadal expressed admiration for his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, who, at just 20 years old, has already claimed two major titles. Nadal commended Alcaraz’s all-around skills and predicted a bright future for the young Spanish talent, noting his lack of weaknesses compared to Nadal’s own experiences at a similar age.

Regarding his own career, Nadal addressed his recent injury woes, revealing his disappointment at missing out on tournaments like the Australian Open due to his physical condition. Despite setbacks, Nadal remains focused on his recovery and aims to return to competition at the Indian Wells Masters in March.

Additionally, Nadal defended his association with the Saudi Tennis Federation, emphasizing Saudi Arabia’s potential and dismissing allegations of “sports washing.” Nadal believes that his involvement can contribute positively to the growth of tennis in the region, despite criticism surrounding Saudi Arabia’s human rights record.
