PH launched an ambitious bid to host the world men’s volleyball tournament
The Philippines is once again poised to become the epicenter of a major global sporting event, as the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) presented its final bid to host the prestigious FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in 2025. Building on the success of the FIBA Basketball World Cup held in the country the previous year, the Philippines aims to showcase its capability as a world-class host for international sports competitions.
Led by PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara, along with key government officials such as Department of Tourism secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and Sen. Pia Cayetano, the bid presentation at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, highlighted the nation’s enthusiasm and readiness to host the men’s volleyball championship.
Suzara emphasized the importance of teamwork in achieving the dream of hosting a successful tournament, expressing the PNVF’s commitment to serving volleyball stakeholders not only in the Philippines but also on a global scale. He also drew from his experience as the chief implementer of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, showcasing the country’s capability to organize and execute major sporting events.
The successful staging of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in the Philippines for two consecutive years demonstrated the country’s potential as a host, drawing praise from Volleyball World officials for the overwhelming support and enthusiasm of Filipino volleyball fans.
The winning bidder from the “final few” candidates will be announced next month, with hopes that the Philippines will secure an automatic slot in the 32-team world championship as the host nation. Key venues such as the Mall of Asia Arena and the Smart Araneta Coliseum, along with world-class hotels, have been identified as potential sites for the tournament. Training facilities including the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, Ninoy Aquino Stadium, PhilSports Arena, and FilOil EcoOil Center are also being considered under the care of the Philippine Sports Commission.
With its strong bid and proven track record in hosting international sporting events, the Philippines aims to elevate its status as a premier destination for sports competitions and provide an unforgettable experience for athletes, fans, and officials alike.
