Kylian Mbappe, the France captain and star forward for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has reportedly informed the club’s officials of his intention to depart when his contract expires at the end of the current season, according to a source close to the Ligue 1 champions. The 25-year-old, who joined PSG from Monaco in 2017, had previously extended his contract until 2024 but declined to activate a clause allowing him to remain for an additional year last summer.

Speculation has been rife regarding Mbappe’s future, with Real Madrid emerging as a likely destination. Negotiations between Mbappe and Real Madrid are said to be underway, although the terms of his departure from PSG have yet to be finalized. An official statement from both the club and the player is expected in the coming months.

PSG, while declining to comment on the matter, is said to be focused on the future and preparing for Mbappe’s departure. Despite leaving on a free transfer, PSG will benefit from an agreement reached last summer in which Mbappe agreed to waive substantial bonuses, amounting to approximately 60 to 70 million euros ($65.6 million to $76.6 million).

Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid fulfills a childhood dream for the prolific forward, who has long been coveted by the Spanish giants. His departure marks the end of an era for PSG, following the exits of Neymar and Lionel Messi in previous seasons, and signals a period of transition for the club. PSG is expected to focus on recruiting new talent to shape a rejuvenated team under the leadership of coach Luis Enrique.
