Andy Murray started his 16th appearance at the ATP-WTA Indian Wells Masters with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory over qualifier David Goffin on Wednesday. The British player, a finalist in 2009, secured the win in 80 minutes, extending his perfect record against the former top-10 Belgian to 8-0.

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, expressed satisfaction with his performance, particularly highlighting his improved serving. He noted that he has historically struggled at the desert venue but felt more comfortable this year due to different conditions.

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, who received a first-round bye, will face Matteo Arnaldi in his opening match. Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner is set to play against Thanasi Kokkinakis in his first match of the tournament.

In the women’s draw, 2021 champion Paula Badosa withdrew from her opening match due to a back injury, with lucky loser Nadia Podoroska taking her place. Angelique Kerber, a finalist five years ago, advanced to the second round and will face Jelena Ostapenko, while Katie Boulter, fresh off a WTA title win, was eliminated in the first round by Camila Giorgi.
