In the realm of esports, traditionally male-dominated, efforts to promote women’s participation are gaining traction. In the Philippines, initiatives like the Women’s Invitational for Mobile Legends Bang Bang and women’s events in major tournaments have put female gamers in the spotlight, including those representing the national esports team, Sibol, who have secured medals for the country.

Despite progress, there’s acknowledgment that more needs to be done to encourage women’s involvement in esports. Sibol’s general manager, Jab Escutin, emphasized the importance of fostering a culture where women feel welcome and respected in the gaming community. He sees upcoming events like the Mobile Legends Bang Bang Women’s Invitational and the International Esports Federations’ World Esports Championship as opportunities to further showcase women’s talent in esports.

Escutin’s personal motivation stems from a desire to create a future where his daughter and all young girls can pursue their dreams in sports or esports without fear of judgment or discrimination. He envisions a society where female athletes are celebrated for their skills, regardless of gender.
