Tulfo scrutinized PCSO executives regarding lottery winners
During a Senate committee hearing chaired by Sen. Raffy Tulfo, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) executives addressed concerns regarding lottery winners, including instances where individuals claimed prizes multiple times within a short period. One case involved a person who claimed prizes 36 times in six months, totaling P8.325 million, prompting questions about the legitimacy of such frequent wins. PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles clarified that the claimants might not necessarily be the actual winners but individuals tasked with claiming prizes on behalf of winners who may not be able to travel to claim their winnings. Tulfo also raised questions about a bettor who reportedly spent P90 million to win a P640-million jackpot, raising concerns of potential money laundering. The Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) acknowledged the unusual nature of the case and pledged to investigate further. Tulfo instructed the PCSO to provide information and invite winners to an executive session at the next hearing for further clarification.
