President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. made a commitment on Friday to complete the distribution of land titles to farmers through the Agrarian Reform Program before his term concludes in 2028.

During the distribution event organized by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), where 3,184 land titles covering 4,659 hectares of agricultural land in Mindanao were awarded, Marcos highlighted the significance of agrarian reform, noting that it was the first law signed by his father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. He emphasized the importance of honoring their ancestors’ legacy by fulfilling their unfinished work.

In addition to the land titles, certificates for farm-to-market roads, with a combined project cost of P194,411,786, were presented to representatives of 34,998 beneficiaries from the municipalities of Cagwait and Barobo.

Under Marcos’s leadership, the DAR has already distributed titles for 109,199 hectares of agricultural land nationwide, benefiting 98,203 Agrarian Reform beneficiaries from July 2022 to December 2023. In the Caraga region alone, the DAR aims to distribute 10,659 hectares of land to 5,743 beneficiaries.

As part of his administration’s efforts, Marcos issued Executive Order 4 in September of the previous year, which implemented a one-year moratorium on the payment of amortizations and interest on agrarian debt. Marcos underscored the importance of going beyond land ownership and addressing other challenges faced by farmers, such as debt burdens and the high cost of inputs, to truly achieve the objectives of agrarian reform.
