Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada has refuted claims of his involvement in an alleged plot to remove Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri from his position. When questioned about rumors suggesting that some senators were persuading him to take over Zubiri’s role, Estrada dismissed them, stating unequivocally that there was no truth to such speculation.

Estrada further clarified that he was prepared to endorse a resolution expressing support for Zubiri’s leadership, although he had not yet received a copy for signature. Regarding the circulating rumors, Estrada expressed confusion about their origin and maintained that he was not privy to their source.

Responding to queries about potential repercussions, such as being stripped of his position as chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense and Security, Estrada indicated that he would seek clarification if such actions were taken against him.

Reports had suggested that Estrada was being considered as Zubiri’s replacement due to his close association with Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, who has recently clashed with Zubiri over constitutional amendments.

Meanwhile, Zubiri expressed gratitude for the support from his colleagues amid renewed rumors of a leadership change. Fourteen senators, including Zubiri, had signed a statement reaffirming their backing for Zubiri’s tenure as Senate President.

On the other hand, Deputy Majority Leader for Communications and ACT-CIS Rep. Erwin Tulfo emphasized that the House of Representatives refrains from interfering in Senate affairs. Tulfo dismissed claims that the rumors of a Senate coup originated from the House, asserting that lawmakers were too preoccupied to engage in such matters. He underscored that decisions regarding leadership changes were solely within the purview of senators.

Tulfo urged lawmakers in both chambers to focus on their respective duties and responsibilities, emphasizing the need to prioritize legislative tasks over speculations and controversies.
