According to her spokesperson, former Vice President Leni Robredo remains receptive to the idea of running for a position in the 2025 elections, potentially alongside other candidates in the opposition slate.

In an interview with News5, lawyer Barry Gutierrez stated, “She’s definitely thinking about it, and definitely the statements of allies like Sen. De Lima will be considered in her decision for 2025.”

This statement follows remarks made by Liberal Party spokesperson and former senator Leila de Lima during a forum held by the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP). De Lima disclosed ongoing discussions with Robredo’s camp regarding her plans for the upcoming elections.

De Lima also revealed that the Liberal Party intends to field three senatorial candidates as part of their opposition slate in the next election cycle. Former Sen. Francis Pangilinan is set to be an official candidate of the LP, while human rights lawyer Chel Diokno and former Sen. Bam Aquino, though not official LP members, are also included.

Reflecting on the outcome of the 2022 national elections, where Robredo and Pangilinan ran for president and vice president respectively, De Lima noted their defeat to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte. She highlighted Sen. Risa Hontiveros as the highest-elected opposition official in government, following her successful bid for a senate seat.

Furthermore, De Lima mentioned that the Liberal Party has yet to finalize their presidential candidate for the 2028 elections, emphasizing the importance of identifying an alternative to the current political landscape.
