Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong is facing another graft case over the alleged irregular improvement and rehabilitation of a P50-million multipurpose building in Barangay Irisan. Councilor Mylen Yaranon filed the complaint, accusing Magalong of violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. The project, implemented through a memorandum of agreement between the DPWH-Cordillera and the city government, was awarded to Khatib Construction. Despite discrepancies noted by a DPWH project engineer, the city government released P43 million to the contractor. The project was terminated by the DPWH due to a 40-percent slippage, but the city government continued it. This marks the second graft case filed against Magalong, following the earlier complaint regarding the irregular purchase of a property for the city’s social housing program in Tuba, Benguet.
