Vice President Sara Duterte strongly condemned the recent attempt on the life of Dr. Sharmaine Ceballos Barroquillo, a dedicated government doctor in Maguindanao, expressing deep concern over the alarming trend of violence in the country. She emphasized that the incident reflects the broader issue of security and order nationwide, underscoring the critical role of peace and order in safeguarding the nation’s freedom and progress.

Barroquillo, a physician at the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Hospital, was targeted by assailants while driving her car in Buluan, Maguindanao del Sur on the evening of February 3. Despite surviving the ambush, she suffered gunshot wounds to her left shoulder and lower back.

In her statement, Vice President Duterte urged relevant government agencies to swiftly and diligently pursue justice for Barroquillo, emphasizing that no individual, especially dedicated public servants like her, should fall victim to criminal violence. She stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and security of all citizens against criminal elements, terrorists, and other disruptive forces.

Duterte called for unity and collaboration among government agencies and the community to combat criminality and uphold peace and order. She emphasized the collective responsibility of all citizens to prevent criminals from gaining a foothold in their communities and to stand firm against any attempts to sow fear and disorder.

The Vice President reiterated her commitment to supporting efforts to bring perpetrators to justice and to create a safer and more secure environment for all Filipinos. She urged continuous vigilance and cooperation to address the root causes of violence and to promote a culture of peace and stability across the nation.
