In the historic city of Prague, a significant milestone was reached as the Philippines and the Czech Republic came together to sign a Joint Communiqué, signifying a renewed commitment to bolster cooperation in safeguarding the rights and welfare of Filipino workers and ensuring their safe migration. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. underscored the Czech Republic’s decision to increase the quota for Filipino workers, a move that reflects the strengthening ties between the two nations. Moreover, President Marcos emphasized the pivotal role of the newly established labor consultation mechanism, which serves as a platform for constructive dialogue and collaboration between the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers and the Czech Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

As of the latest data, there are approximately 7,026 Filipinos residing in the Czech Republic, contributing to various sectors such as processing, automotive, information technology, and household services. Their invaluable contributions not only bolster the local economy but also enrich the cultural diversity of the Czech Republic. Against this backdrop, the signing of the Joint Communiqué reaffirms the commitment of both countries to uphold the rights and welfare of Filipino workers, ensuring that they are protected and supported in their endeavors abroad.

Furthermore, the robust economic partnership between the Philippines and the Czech Republic is highlighted by bilateral trade amounting to $303.21 million last year. This thriving trade relationship underscores the mutual benefits derived from collaboration and underscores the potential for further economic cooperation between the two nations.
