Oxfam, an anti-poverty charity based in the United Kingdom, has accused Israel of deliberately obstructing the delivery of aid to Gaza during its conflict with Hamas. According to Oxfam’s report, Israel’s actions are seen as a violation of international humanitarian law, as they hinder efforts to provide much-needed assistance to the Palestinian territory. The organization alleges that Israel’s actions contradict an order issued by the International Court of Justice in January, which called for an increase in aid to Gaza, and also fails to fulfill its legal obligation to protect the people living in the occupied land.

“The ICJ order should have shocked Israeli leaders to change course, but since then conditions in Gaza have actually worsened,” stated Sally Abi Khalil, Director for Middle East and North Africa at Oxfam.

She continued, “Israeli authorities are not only failing to facilitate the international aid effort but are actively hindering it. We believe that Israel is failing to take all measures within its power to prevent genocide.”

Oxfam highlighted the “unjustifiably inefficient” inspection rules that result in aid trucks being stuck in queues for an average of 20 days while attempting to enter Gaza.

The organization pointed out that Israeli authorities arbitrarily reject “dual-use” items, which are civilian goods with potential military applications, such as backup generators and torches.

“The list of rejected items is overwhelming and constantly changing,” Oxfam remarked.

It recounted an incident where water bags and water testing kits in an Oxfam shipment were initially rejected without explanation, only to be allowed entry later on.
