The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has put a halt to the expansion of motorcycle taxi services, as the pilot study is set to conclude in May. LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz mentioned that the board will prepare its recommendation to Congress regarding the operation of motorcycle taxis, leaving the decision to Congress on whether to adopt it. Approximately 8,000 more slots were approved by the LTFRB. Guadiz, who heads the technical working group overseeing the pilot study, stated that the group will submit its recommendation to Congress in May. Motorcycle taxis are seen as a solution to unauthorized operations and aim to alleviate traffic congestion, with trained drivers and insured passengers. Currently, Metro Manila has 51,000 motorcycle taxi slots. Transport groups have urged President Marcos to stop the expansion of motorcycle taxis, particularly outside the National Capital Region, to mitigate traffic congestion. The House of Representatives committee on Metro Manila development has supported a moratorium on additional players in the motorcycle taxi pilot study.
