The Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla announced that charges of sexual child abuse and qualified trafficking are set to be filed against Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, the founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC). This decision follows the overturning of a joint resolution from June 29, 2020, which dismissed previous complaints against Quiboloy and members of the KJC.

The complaints, dating back to 2011, detail a series of abuses, including rape of a minor in September 2014, emotional and physical mistreatment, and forced labor within the KJC under the pretext of religious service. Despite initial dismissals and denials of motions for reconsideration, the complainant’s persistent legal efforts have prompted a reevaluation, revealing probable cause against Quiboloy and several church members.

The Office of the City Prosecutor of Davao City has been directed to file the sexual child abuse case against Quiboloy and co-respondents, while the case for qualified human trafficking will be filed in a Pasig City court. Additionally, an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) was issued against Quiboloy to prevent his flight.

Remulla emphasized the government’s commitment to justice and protecting minors from abuse and exploitation, stating that this case signifies progress towards rectifying injustices suffered by vulnerable members of society. Quiboloy is also wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for alleged participation in a labor trafficking scheme in the United States, leading to his indictment by a federal grand jury.

Recent developments include the issuance of a subpoena by the Senate after Quiboloy failed to appear at hearings regarding the sexual abuse and forced labor charges against him and his church members.
