44 Individuals Injured following Collapse of Church Second Floor

Around 44 individuals were injured and promptly transported to the hospital when a portion of the second floor of a church collapsed in the City of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, at approximately 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

The injured individuals were worshippers attending the Ash Wednesday mass at St. Peter Apostle Parish Church when the incident occurred, as per the City of San Jose del Monte Public Information Office (PIO).

Eyewitnesses reported hearing screams followed by the sudden collapse of the church’s mezzanine floor, according to the PIO.

Images captured post-accident depict wooden planks and tangled wires obstructing the church’s entrance.

Following the incident, the City’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, local police, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the City Health Office promptly responded to the scene, the PIO stated.

The PIO further announced that the local government of San Jose del Monte would assume the hospitalization expenses for all injured worshippers transported to six hospitals in Bulacan.

As of Wednesday morning, authorities continue to conduct clearance operations.
