In today’s world, expressing love goes beyond traditional gestures like saying “I love you” or giving flowers and chocolates. For Millennials and Gen Zs in the Asia Pacific region, including the Philippines, a new love language has emerged — shared travel experiences.

According to booking site Klook, 9 out of 10 travelers plan to embark on journeys with their loved ones in 2024, seeking to create lasting memories after a prolonged period of pandemic-induced isolation. Despite rising costs due to global inflation, 3 out of 5 travelers are prepared to allocate a significant portion of their budget to experiences and activities during their adventures.

Travel has evolved into more than just a vacation; it has become an avenue for building connections and forging deeper bonds. Klook’s chief operating officer, Eric Gnock Fah, notes that this trend reflects a post-pandemic world where people crave genuine connections after a period of isolation and increased digitalization.

In the Philippines, 64% of Millennials and Gen Zs are increasing their travel budgets in 2024, with nearly half willing to spend up to 50% or more on their trips. The focus is on experiences that facilitate meaningful connections, with 34% of Filipinos preferring to travel with their partners and immediate family.

Moreover, travelers are prioritizing unique destinations and activities that offer cultural richness, outdoor adventures, and the thrill of theme parks. Social media plays a significant role in travel inspiration and planning, with platforms like Instagram and YouTube influencing travel decisions and recommendations from content creators shaping booking choices.

Spring emerges as the favored season for travel, with nature and outdoor activities being popular choices for enjoying this time of year. Preferences vary across countries, reflecting diverse seasonal affections and desires for different experiences.

Overall, Millennials and Gen Zs are embracing shared adventures with loved ones, marking a shift from pandemic-induced habits of solitude towards a renewed appreciation for connection and exploration through travel.
