In a recent statement on her Facebook account, Miss World 2013 Megan Young publicly apologized for her actions during the Question and Answer segment of the Miss World 2024 pageant, specifically addressing her decision to adjust the hair of Miss Botswana, Lesego Chombo. Megan explained that her intention was solely to offer assistance to Lesego, but she acknowledged that she failed to consider the cultural implications of her actions. Recognizing the potential distress her actions may have caused, Megan expressed regret and took full responsibility for her oversight.

She further disclosed that she had privately spoken with Lesego to offer her apologies and discuss the matter. Megan clarified that her actions were not intended to invade personal space or make anyone uncomfortable, emphasizing her commitment to being more mindful and respectful in the future.

Addressing those who witnessed the incident, Megan extended her apologies for any discomfort or confusion caused. She acknowledged her actions as thoughtless and disrespectful and expressed deep regret for the impact they may have had.

Following the pageant, a Botswanian content creator accused Megan of racism, alleging that her action of fixing Lesego’s hair was intended to undermine her confidence and suggest to the judges that it was not her natural hair but a wig. However, Megan refuted these claims, reaffirming her intention to assist and support Lesego, without any ulterior motives.
