Young ballerina Tiffany Jocelyn Ong, who has already made a mark in ballet competitions locally and internationally, is gearing up to compete at the Youth America Grand Prix in New York from April 11 to 20.

The first leg of the final competition will be held at Suny Purchase College, Westchester County, where thousands of participants will vie for top honors. The climax of the event will unfold in New York City, featuring the Final Classical Rounds for Junior and Senior Soloists, the YAGP Stars of Today Meets the Stars of Tomorrow Gala, and the Awards Ceremony.

Tiffany’s journey in ballet began in 2015, when she first stepped into the world of dance at the age of three and a half. Encouraged by her parents, Omar and Sui Ling Ong, Tiffany’s talent was nurtured by teacher Mark Christopher Simbiling, who played a pivotal role in preparing her for competitions.

Since then, Tiffany has garnered numerous awards in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Malaysia, with her achievements extending even during the pandemic through online competitions in Montana, Cuba, and Italy. At the age of 11, Tiffany clinched the prestigious HOPE award at the 2022 Youth Grand Prix Philippines (YGPPH), earning her an invitation to compete at the Youth America Grand Prix in Tampa, Florida, in April 2023.

Now 12, Tiffany is gearing up for her debut in the pointe shoes category in the 12-14 age group at the Youth America Grand Prix in New York. Her preparations involve intensive exercises focused on perfecting her footwork and ensuring she’s in top form for the competition.

Tiffany draws inspiration from two-time Indonesian champion at YAGP, Rebecca Hadibroto, as she aims to replicate her success on the international stage.

Her parents emphasize the importance of trusting Tiffany’s coach, being patient, and maintaining consistency in practice. They also stress the significance of humility and prayer in achieving success.

Simbiling, Tiffany’s mentor, advocates for nurturing homegrown talents and has seen success in producing champions like Tiffany through his school, Hope Academy of Dance. He emphasizes the importance of balanced practice and aims to groom more talented dancers who will bring honor to the Philippines on the global stage.
