The return of the iconic giant yellow rubber ducks to Kaohsiung’s Love River Bay has sparked joy and excitement among locals and visitors alike. As part of the ongoing Taiwan Lantern Festival, organized by the Taiwan Administration’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications, these beloved symbols of whimsy and playfulness have once again captured the hearts of onlookers.

The presence of the giant rubber ducks has added an extra layer of fun and charm to the festivities, drawing crowds eager to snap photos and create lasting memories against the picturesque backdrop of the city’s bay. Visitors, including members of the press covering the lantern festival, couldn’t resist the opportunity to take selfies and group photos with the cheerful ducks as their backdrop.

Adding to the excitement, yellow duck head pins and accessories were available for purchase at the nearby bazaar, allowing attendees to take home a piece of the playful spirit embodied by these beloved creatures.

Created by renowned Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, the giant rubber ducks made their grand return to Kaohsiung’s waters during the festival’s opening ceremony on January 27 and remained a highlight of the event until its conclusion on February 25.

For many, the reappearance of the 18-meter-tall giant rubber ducks is a welcome sight, evoking fond memories of their previous visit to the city in 2013. Their playful presence serves as a reminder of the joy and wonder that art can bring to communities, uniting people of all ages in shared appreciation of creativity and imagination.
