Several celebrities, including Anne Curtis, Aya Fernandez, and Janno Gibbs, have expressed dismay over the development of a resort near Bohol’s famed Chocolate Hills, which went viral on social media. Anne Curtis voiced her concern, emphasizing the need to preserve the natural beauty of the area. Aya Fernandez highlighted the significance of the Chocolate Hills as the Philippines’ first geopark declared by UNESCO and called for its conservation. Janno Gibbs criticized the construction of the resort, echoing the sentiments of other celebrities who shared their thoughts on social media.

Broadcast journalist Arnold Clavio and host Sam YG also expressed disappointment, while beauty queen Pauline Amelinckx emphasized the importance of preserving the Chocolate Hills, considering it a vital part of Bohol’s identity. Many others, including Gretchen Ho, Gardo Versoza, and Winwyn Marquez, reposted concerning statements and images related to the issue.

The Chocolate Hills, characterized by their unique geological formations, are a natural treasure of Bohol. Former President Fidel Ramos declared them a natural monument in 1997 to protect their beauty. Recently, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources issued a closure order and a notice of violation to the resort’s administrator for operating without an environmental compliance certificate. This action reflects ongoing efforts to safeguard the Chocolate Hills and their surrounding environment from unsustainable development.
