Actor O Yeong-su from “Squid Game” has been convicted of sexual misconduct, according to a local court in Seoul, South Korea. He was charged with assaulting a woman back in 2017. Despite being recognized with a Golden Globe Award for best supporting actor in a series in 2022 for his role in the Netflix hit series, the 79-year-old actor has been sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for two years. Additionally, he has been ordered to complete 40 hours of classes on sexual violence.

The court noted that the victim’s accounts of the assault were consistent and credible, indicating a genuine experience. This verdict adds to the series of sexual assault allegations that have emerged within South Korea’s entertainment industry, including notable figures like late filmmaker Kim Ki-duk and actor Cho Jae-hyun.

“Squid Game” has garnered immense global attention, contributing to South Korea’s significant influence on popular culture worldwide, alongside other phenomena like K-pop band BTS and the award-winning film “Parasite.”
