“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” dominated the North American box office this weekend, raking in an estimated $45.2 million in what analysts hailed as a remarkable opening. Analyst David A. Gross noted its rarity as only the fifth comedy series in the past 27 years to reach five installments, with ticket sales surpassing genre norms. Despite its $100 million budget, the film has yet to reach profitability. Co-written by Jason Reitman and featuring a blend of new and veteran cast members, the movie pits ghost catchers against a menacing deity intent on plunging the world into a new Ice Age.

Warner Bros.’ “Dune: Part Two” held strong in second place, earning an estimated $17.6 million over the weekend. With a total of $233.3 million domestically and $341 million internationally, the sci-fi epic continues to impress audiences.

Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s “Kung Fu Panda 4” slipped to third place, earning $16.8 million, while Neon’s psychological horror film “Immaculate” debuted in fourth with $5.4 million. Starring Sydney Sweeney, the film follows a nun who experiences a mysterious pregnancy in a remote Italian convent.

Lionsgate’s “Arthur the King,” featuring Mark Wahlberg as an adventurer befriending an injured stray dog, rounded out the top five with $4.4 million in earnings.

The rest of the top 10 included “Late Night With the Devil” and “Imaginary,” each bringing in $2.8 million.
