Today marks the nationwide release of “Bob Marley: One Love,” a cinematic exploration helmed by director Reinaldo Marcus Green that delves deep into the essence of the legendary musician Bob Marley. Green’s intent is to unveil a side of Marley rarely seen before, aiming to capture the profound weight Marley carried as he spread a message of love and unity.

“Bob carried the weight of the world on his shoulders to bring one love and joy to others. He bore that pain for us. He carried abandonment. He carried agony. He carried guilt. But he did not carry hate,” Green passionately affirms.

The film’s cast also contributes their personal perspectives on Marley’s significance. Lashana Lynch, embodying the role of Rita Marley, draws connections between Marley’s legacy and the attainment of inner peace: “If many in this world had even a slice of the level of peace that Bob harnessed throughout his time on this Earth, well, we all know how that could reverberate.”

Portraying the iconic musician on screen, Kingsley Ben-Adir sheds light on lesser-known aspects of Marley’s persona: “He wasn’t sentimental — I can say that confidently. I’ve spent enough time with him now to know that Bob wasn’t sentimental. Music and football were his systems of how he felt good. Football, stamina, running, music, lick of smoke. He lost himself in the music. I feel like he’s singing for his life a lot of the time.”

For Marley’s loved ones, the film stands as a tribute to the enduring impact of the icon. Cedella Marley, daughter of Bob Marley, shares her hope that the film will perpetuate positivity, echoing her father’s timeless message of kindness and unity.

“My kids, I hope they witness a different type of kindness. Kindness for mankind, kindness for one another. There are still certain things I thought my children would never have to experience, that you never thought would still be happening,” she articulates. “And if not my children, hopefully their children. We’ll keep spreading his message. Because Bob Marley still has a lot of work to do.”

“Bob Marley: One Love” serves as a celebration of the life and music of an icon whose message of love and unity has inspired generations. Presented on the big screen for the first time, audiences are invited to discover Marley’s powerful narrative of resilience amidst adversity and the transformative journey behind his revolutionary music.

Produced in close collaboration with the Marley family, the film is distributed in the Philippines by Paramount Pictures through Columbia Pictures.
