The Swiss watch that caused Arnold Schwarzenegger some legal trouble with German customs officials has fetched a hefty sum of 270,000 euros ($290,000) after being auctioned off for the actor’s climate charity. Schwarzenegger, known for his action-packed Hollywood career and subsequent environmental activism, was briefly detained at Munich airport for failing to declare the bespoke Audemars Piguet timepiece.

Despite the ordeal, Schwarzenegger humorously recounted his “wild experience” at a charity dinner, joking about the incident and the customs official involved. He quipped about the situation, adding a touch of levity to the proceedings. The actor, who previously served as the governor of California, seemed unfazed by the incident.

The fundraiser for the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative took place in the Austrian resort town of Kitzbuehel, drawing notable guests such as US climate envoy John Kerry. The auction of the watch, described as the “world’s most famous,” contributed to the charity’s successful fundraising efforts.

Although Schwarzenegger had to pay “several thousand euros” in taxes for the watch, the event as a whole was deemed a success, raising a total of 1.31 million euros. In addition to the watch, various artworks and a personal training session with Schwarzenegger himself were auctioned off, further supporting the charitable cause.
