With the reopening of economies following the tight COVID-19 lockdowns, BDO Unibank Inc. has become the largest partner of WorldRemit (WorldRemit BDO partnership), a global digital money transfer service provider. Remittances from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are likely to touch record levels.

According to Earl Melivo, WorldRemit’s national director for the Philippines, the country’s largest bank is now the company’s largest partner in terms of volume under its 10-year agreement.

“We’ve had the pleasure of working with BDO for many years. “We’ve created a secure channel for OFWs to transfer money home to friends, family, and loved ones,” Melivo added.

BDO Kabayan Savings is BDO Remit’s flagship financial product for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and beneficiaries who want to save for the future.

OFWs and their family can start building credit history with BDO by opening a BDO Kabayan savings account, making it easier for them to apply for a car, home, or business loan in the Philippines.

BDO WorldRemit are both dedicated to providing the finest service possible to OFWs.

Genie Gloria, president of BDO Remit, said the project will “surely alter the lives of people who faced difficult times during the global pandemic.”

“With all of the sacrifices they have made, our OFWs and their families deserve a better life.” Being apart from your loved ones is difficult, and the pandemic has made things considerably more difficult for them. “I appreciate WorldRemit’s willingness to assist,” Gloria stated.

To recognize the efforts of Filipinos working overseas and enable them to further engage in their communities, BDO and WorldRemit teamed with rice retailer and franchisee Grainsmart to give away pangkabuhayan packages worth P250,000 each to two qualified BDO Kabayan Savings account holders.

Edith Gueco, a 2022 Remit to Win winner working in Kuwait, will receive in-depth training from Grainsmart’s highly qualified workers, providing her with the skills she needs to run a franchise business successfully.

This WorldRemit BDO partnership will bring closer or narrow the gap in terms of speed and reliability of cross-border remittances.
