Luxury brands such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche have begun to add the Lotus EV variations to their portfolios, and hypercar manufacturers such as Lamborghini and Ferrari expect their first EVs to be available in the coming years.

Lotus announced the debut of its own EV, the 600HP Eletre, this week, with deliveries set to begin next year in China, Europe, and the United Kingdom.
According to the manufacturer, the Eletre, codenamed Type 132, “reinterprets the heart and spirit of the latest Lotus sports car, the Emira, and the breakthrough aero performance of the all-electric Evija hypercar as a Hyper-SUV.”

The Eletre is based on Lotus’ 800V Electric Premium Architecture platform, and it competes with the Audi e-Tron and Hyundai Ioniq 5. According to the business, drivers will be able to add around 248 miles of range in a 20-minute charge utilizing a 350 kW DC fast charger.

The Lotus EV hasn’t revealed much about the battery other than the fact that it “has a battery capacity of over 100 kWh,” resulting in a total range of 373 miles, which is equivalent to the Tesla Model X Long Range Plus.

According to reports, the Eletre’s dual front and rear motors will create 600 horsepower, allowing it a top speed of 161 miles per hour and a 0-60 acceleration time of less than three seconds.

Ben Payne directed the exterior design of the Eletre, which features “porous” aerodynamics and a low stance atop the platform’s large wheelbase with small overhangs at either end.

The interior will include either two bucket seats and a bench or four individual seats, front and back, beneath a fixed panoramic sunroof.
Lotus’ new manufacturing site in Wuhan, China, will start production later this year, with deliveries starting in 2023. The model will be released initially in China, Europe, and the United Kingdom.

The corporation has not published the price.
