NEWBrew will be available in three packs for purchase

For the first time, craft beer made from NEWater will be available to the general public.

At first sip, the drink tastes exactly as it appears a nice, light craft beer.

Smooth, not overly sweet, and slightly bitter.

The fruity, foamy drink, however, is not your typical aperitif. It’s made up of 95% NEWater, Singapore’s high-quality reclaimed water.

NEWBrew will be available for the first time to the general public from April 12 to the end of July, according to a news release issued by National Water Agency PUB and local craft brewery Brewerkz on Friday (April 8).

The beer is available at NTUC FairPrice and Cold Storage stores, as well as online platforms and Brewerkz’s restaurant and online store. It will be available in three packs for purchase $4.50 per can.

NEWBrew will also be available at the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) 2022, which takes place later this month. The craft beer will be served for the second time at the event, where it first appeared in 2018.

According to PUB and Brewerkz, the 2022 version will be a “tropical blonde ale” with a “smooth, toasted honey-like aftertaste.”

Premium German barley malts, aromatic citra and calypso hops, and kveik, a Norwegian farmhouse yeast strain, are among the ingredients.

“NEWBrew is possibly Singapore’s greenest beer and the ideal complement to this year’s SIWW, with its key themes of climate resilience, resource circularity, and water sustainability,” SIWW managing director Ryan Yuen said.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Brewerkz to bring NEWBrew back, as it is also part of PUB’s efforts to educate Singaporeans on the importance of water recycling and reuse as a strategy for achieving water sustainability three packs for purchase.” It also reinforces the message that NEWater is perfectly wholesome and safe to drink, and that it can be used to make a delicious beer.”
