The federal transport authority (KBA) revealed on Saturday, June 4, 2022, that Mercedes-Benz is recalling around 1 million older vehicles worldwide owing to a probable brake system problem.

Mercedes-Benz is recalling around 1 million older vehicles globally owing to a potential braking system malfunction, according to the German Federal Transport Authority (KBA) (KBA).

The recall affected cars produced between 2004 and 2015 in the SUV series ML and GL, as well as the R-Class luxury minivan, according to the KBA in a statement dated June 1 and reported late Saturday (Sunday in Manila) in German media.

“In the worst-case situation, corrosion on the brake booster can interrupt the connection between the brake pedal and the braking system,” according to the KBA.

“As a result, the service brake may fail to function.”

The Ukraine war might drive up car prices and exacerbate shortages.

According to the KBA, 993,407 autos are being recalled worldwide, with around 70,000 in Germany.

Later, in a statement to AFP, Mercedes-Benz confirmed the recall, saying it was based on “analysis of isolated reports for select vehicles.”

In the event of severe corrosion, it is possible that the brake booster will sustain mechanical damage during a harsh braking maneuver, resulting in a severed connection between the brake pedal and the braking system. In this extremely unlikely event, the service brake would no longer function to slow the car. There would be a higher probability of harm occurring as a result. That doesn’t change how the parking brake works when you press it with your foot.

“In such a rare case, it would be hard to decelerate the automobile using the service brake, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.”

The S-Class is the epitome of luxury.

The corporation announced that it would “immediately commence the recall” and contact owners of “potentially affected autos.”
