The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) is an Ayala Land Inc partner to build a new substation at the Vermosa Estate in Imus, Cavite, as part of both companies’ commitment to provide dependable electricity to the area.

Meralco has begun building on a 115-34.5 kilovolt substation that would be housed within Vermosa, a 725-hectare mixed-use complex along Daang Hari Road.

Three transformer banks will be housed at the substation, each capable of generating 83 megavolt amperes (MVA) of power, for a total capacity of 249 MVA.

“We have worked hand in hand with Meralco in the master planning of our estates for several years, supplying vital utilities to residents, locators, and tourists, and now we are working to make Vermosa move-in ready with its own Meralco substation,” said Vermosa Estate head Jay Teodoro.

The substation, which is expected to be fully operational by December 2022, will have the capacity to accommodate new and extra load applications in the area.

This will ensure that Vermosa residents have a steady supply of electricity, whether from residential customers or business and industrial accounts serving the retail, sports and leisure, and office markets.

Furthermore, having the substation will ensure operational switching flexibility during contingencies and improve voltage management for Ayala Land Inc partner and institutional locators, such as De La Salle Zobel Campus and adjacent projects in Imus, Cavite.

“This project is part of Meralco’s thrust to serve its customers, particularly in planning all facilities requirements, which we can ramp up and forecast according to projected turn over, during the master planning stages,” said Ferdinand Geluz, Meralco first vice president and head of Customer Retail Services.

“Meralco encourages developers to work closely with Meralco at the early stages of their planning,” Ronnie Aperocho, Meralco Senior Vice President and Head of Networks, said. “We are committed to providing the energy infrastructure to meet the projected growth of new communities, not just for timely energization but to have the right facilities to meet their needs.”
