McDonald’s Philippines joins the ‘Green and Good’ movement
18 June 2022
McDonald’s Philippines intends to improve its “Green & Good” initiative by introducing innovative and environmentally friendly restaurant solutions in more of its new locations across the country. These new restaurants will be spread out over the country.
Since the year 2020, McDonald’s has had two Green & Good flagship restaurants in the Philippines located in the cities of Manila and Mandaluyong where they test and measure green ideas for sustainable restaurant practices. At addition, the company was looking into the possibility of using solar panels as a source of energy by conducting pilot tests in two of its stores located on Quezon Avenue and in Malasiqui, Pangasinan.
Today is the day when McDonald’s is planning to launch its first wave of solar-powered restaurants in the cities of Arayat, Pampanga and Ligao, Albay. These stores have on-grid photovoltaic systems that are connected to the local utility grid. These systems are a cost-effective way to supplement energy needs and have the potential to generate more than 70,000 kWh (kilowatt-hours) annually, which is equivalent to producing less than 17,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide.
According to Kenneth Yang, President and Chief Executive Officer of McDonald’s Philippines, “McDonald’s Philippines is going on a path to become a better McDonald’s for the environment.” This statement was made by Kenneth Yang. Upcycling, reducing trash, and conserving energy are just few of our priorities when it comes to developing environmentally friendly restaurant solutions for our retail locations.
Solar lamp posts, photo and motion sensors, high-performance glass film, and energy-saving air conditioning will all be included in the newly constructed stores as part of the utility conservation measures that are being implemented by the company. Among the many environmentally friendly building materials that are utilized are eco-panels, light-gauge steel frames, and concrete fiber.
This year, the company intends to enhance its environmental commitment by building more Green & Good flagship stores across the country and converting more of its existing locations to solar electricity. Both of these initiatives are scheduled to take place in this year.
