KONE, a manufacturer of elevators and escalators, has pledged to reduce emissions significantly and achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2030.

KONE stated in its most recent sustainability report that it will strive to reduce emissions by 50% and the materials and lifetime energy use of its products by 40% from 2018. This is consistent with the current most ambitious standard for establishing science-based targets, which is limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

The Finnish company offers automatic building doors, escalators, and elevators as well as solutions for maintenance and upgrading to increase the value of structures during their entire lifespan. With over 1.5 million units in its maintenance base, the firm has handled more than 500,000 clients globally

KONE has been a champion of sustainability with its wide variety of solutions, including sustainable building design, best-in-class energy efficiency, carbon-optimized maintenance, and recyclable resources, all driven by its aim to improve the flow of urban life.

KONE was in the top 1% of corporations rated by EcoVadis in 2021 and received a “A” list for climate from the Climate Disclosure Project for nine years running. KONE was also listed by Corporate Knights as one of the top 2% of the world’s most sustainable businesses.

Additionally, according to ISO 25745 more than 20 KONE elevator models, eight escalators, and autowalks all received A-class ratings for best-in-class energy efficiency. Additionally, the business unveiled KONE Care DX, the first carbon-neutral elevator maintenance service in the world that leverages digital connection and AI (artificial intelligence) to deliver seamless, anticipatory elevator care.

With the implementation of its Eco-Safe Driving Handbook, waste management through its Sustainable Packaging Guidelines, strategies to cut down on travel and electricity use, and engagement of its partners, vendors, and suppliers to bring environmental actions into the agenda when meeting with KONE, KONE Philippines is making strides in its local operations.

“Our strategy strongly lies in our commitment to sustainable practices. It is the source of our innovation and competitive advantage,” said Managing Director Markus Nisula. “Sustainability at KONE is not just about caring for the environment but also about diversity and inclusion, safety, quality, ethics, and compliance.”

Our goal is to earn our clients’ trust throughout the building life cycle and assist them in achieving their sustainability goals in order to improve urban settings.
