Due to its favorable business climate, accelerated cloud adoption, demographic shifts toward hybrid working, long-term government strategy, and sustainability initiatives, the Philippines is emerging as one of the Asia Pacific region’s most promising hubs for hyperscale investments, according to global data.

Jabez Tan, head of Research for independent research firm Structure Research, stated that the country is expected to increase its data center capacity exponentially with the recent announcement of new hyperscale facilities made to meet the incoming demand during the recent Hyperscale Readiness and Capacity Outlook of the Philippines webinar.

According to Tan, the Philippine data center colocation market is expected to reach $134 million this year and would expand gradually at a CAGR of 25% through 2027, mostly due to the hyperscale industry.

By building its 11th and largest hyperscale data center to date, Jupiter Cable and PLDT through its ICT unit ePLDT, is driving the capacity build in response to the demand. Vitamin Sta Rosa is the first of several data center constructions with a combined 100MW of power.

Amil Azurin, vice president of PLDT Enterprise and head of Product Management for the Disruptive Business Group, said, “We continue to build new facilities to serve the market demand that comes with the digitalization of the country while expanding our capacities in existing sites such as Vitro Makati 2, Paraaque, and Clark.”

The requirement to expand the global network that connects to these facilities follows as the nation ramps up its data center capacity. The newest investment by  in the Jupiter Cable and PLDT Group, according to Gary Ignacio, vice president of PLDT Enterprise and director of the Strategic Business Development Group, complements the planned Vitro Sta. Rosa, as both of the country’s top-notch infrastructures support its status as the region’s upcoming hyperscale hub.

Jupiter, which would increase the country’s international cable network diversity and treble PLDT’s current international network capacity to around 60 Terabit/s while channeling huge data to PLDT’s network of data centers, is currently the fastest cable system connecting the Philippines and the US.

With the Jupiter cable system and the upcoming Vitro Sta. Rosa, we are confident that we are on our way to further accelerating the digitization of enterprises and creating more digital services and content for all Filipinos to enjoy. “PLDT commits to a world-class hyperscale ecosystem for the country,” he continued.
