Jollibee Group awarded for empowering farmers

The Asia Pacific (APAC) Tambuli Awards 2022 acknowledged The Jollibee Group for fostering inclusive growth through its farmer entrepreneurship initiative, which works with multisectoral partners to educate and empower small farmers to start their own businesses and enhance their standard of living.

The APAC Tambuli Awards, now in its 16th year, honor successful brand purpose campaigns from all over the world. This year, Jollibee Group awarded, which are run by the School of Communication at the University of Asia and the Pacific, added categories for corporate purposes. A brand that “provides the means and chances for the underprivileged segments in society to be part of the company’s success in a sustainable way” is recognized in the Inclusive Growth category under corporate purpose.

As we reach new milestones, we pledge to share our successes and gains with more communities that most need them, according to Pepot Miana, Chief Sustainability and Public Affairs Officer of Jollibee Group. “Buying directly from farmers allows us to support the local agriculture sector while promoting sustainable business practices,” Miana said.

The Jollibee Group awarded the organization in charge of the company’s social development, is known for its Farmer Entrepreneurship Program. As part of the initiative, farmers receive training and mentoring in the eight-step agro-enterprise clustering strategy, which enables them to market their goods and jointly meet the volume and quality criteria of major purchasers.

Since 2008, JGF has taught more than 3,000 farmers and assisted in the formation of 17 farmer organizations that are now approved suppliers of the Jollibee Group. A total of 9,000 tons of vegetables have been provided to the corporation by these farmer groups since 2009, generating more than $7 million in sales revenue for the small farmers.

In order to give various interventions that assist farmers in becoming agro-entrepreneurs with the ability to supply various markets, the foundation partners with various like-minded institutions and implements the program in conjunction with multiple Jollibee Group entities. There are now 54 partner organizations involved in the initiative, including farmer associations, local government entities, nongovernmental organizations, financial institutions, academic institutions, agriculture service providers, and the Department of Agriculture. Small farmers benefit from increased income since it increases their ability to feed their own families.
