Epson, a technology company, intends to expand its manufacturing operations in Batangas and promote the use of environmentally friendly products.

In a virtual briefing, Jester Cruz, senior regional manager for business inkjet division (Southeast Asia headquarters) at Epson Singapore, stated that the company expects to continue investing in the Batangas facility.

“Epson has always considered the Philippines to be a strategic location.” That is why, in terms of additional investments, a lot has been given in recent years, if not decades… “It’s safe to say that will continue,” he said.

Eduardo Bonoan, general manager of Epson Philippines Corp., stated that the company made a significant investment in January last year to transition the Batangas manufacturing facility to 100 percent renewable energy.

He explained that the switch was made possible by generating power with a rooftop mega solar power plant and switching to a combination of geothermal and hydroelectric power.

“The Batangas plant still has room for growth.” So, as a premier manufacturing plant, you can imagine that all of this will continue and that it will almost become a trademark, a benchmark for manufacturing because it is the premier and largest plant in the Epson world,” he said.

In keeping with its commitment to promote sustainability and additional investments, the company is offering products that will aid in energy conservation while also assisting businesses in running efficiently.

Among the products offered by the company are inkjet printers, which, according to Cruz, use less energy than laser printers.

Inkjet printers, in particular, require 85 percent less energy, according to him.

Apart from providing environmentally friendly products, the company has also collaborated with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) on marine conservation and climate action projects in the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries.

In the Philippines, Bonoan stated that Epson would assist WWF in restoring several mangrove sites in Southern Palawan, including seed planting, monitoring, and coastal resource management.

He also stated that Epson would help WWF establish a community learning and innovation hub to help communities sustain capacity building and share best practices.

Epson and WWF are also planning to launch an environment-focused virtual museum to remind Filipinos of their role in addressing climate change.

“Epson’s commitment to sustainability has always been integrated in the way we operate, in the products and solutions we innovate, and in the initiatives we undertake to help our community shape a greener future for the next generation,” Bonoan said.
