Dito Telecommunity Corp., a telco newcomer, anticipates increased competitiveness in the second part of the year.

In accordance with its license responsibilities, Dito’s chief administrative officer, Adel Tamano, stated yesterday that the telco company would increase its coverage to 70% of the population within a month.

By that time, according to Tamano, Dito can compete with the major telco players in terms of market penetration, which will benefit consumers who will have another network subscription option.

“We are convinced that Dito can compete with the two other major companies since expanding our reach allows us to increase competitiveness on our market share. Consumers in the Philippines would profit from the increased competition as businesses compete to offer the best connectivity and value for money, according to Tamano.

In June, the third telco provider surpassed the nine-million-subscriber threshold. The company plans to hit the 12-million member mark by the end of 2022, relying on its presence in more than 600 cities and municipalities nationally.

Tamano claimed that even the international broadband speed tester Ookla acknowledged the effects of Dito’s arrival into the market, claiming that its operations helped improve Internet quality throughout the Philippines.

LTE speed in the nation increased to 15.53 Mbps in the first quarter, or roughly a year into Dito’s operation, from 11.15 Mbps a year earlier, when Dito made its commercial launch, according to Sylwia Kechiche, chief industry analyst for Ookla.

According to Kechiche’s analysis, the entry of Dito and the regulatory modifications led to increased competitiveness in network spending and an overall improvement in 4G coverage and performance across all carriers.

Tamano responded by stating that Dito would continue its investment binge for the network rollout. The company wants to expand its commercial availability to over 840 regions around the country, hence it expects to spend P50 billion this year on infrastructure expansion.

“This is only the start. Filipino customers can expect more from Dito as we remain committed to continuing investments in network upgrades and growth thanks to our commitment to providing quality telecommunication services countrywide, Tamano said.
