Potato Corner, a food kiosk, has increased its footprint in China by opening outlets in Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

In Guangzhou’s Comic City, the company Potato Corner location launched its first shop in South China in May, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The Shenzhen location of Potato Corner debuted on June 6 of last year.

According to the DTI, a second location in Guangzhou is soon to open.

The DTI stated that Potato Corner plans to eventually build shops in each significant Chinese metropolis.

Through Chinese social media sites like Douyin, Xiaohongshu, and Weibo, the flavored french fry brand has become extremely well-known in China, especially among young professionals and children, according to Amber Xia, who shares ownership of the Potato Corner franchise at Comic City with Qiu Jiedong.

The majority of Potato Corner’s expansion has been done through franchising.

Marshall Louis Alferez, the Philippine consul general in Guangzhou, recently paid a visit to the Guangzhou location and urged Xia to look into more Filipino cuisine franchises since many of these companies have had success expanding abroad and are still expanding.

The DTI office in South China “would continue to support the franchise with what they need for business expansion,” said to Allan Liu, senior trade and investment consultant at the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Guangzhou.

After the technical team contacted its office in Guangzhou last year, the DTI offered commercial and comparative information to the Potato Corner headquarters in picking the locations for the outlets.

Even in the midst of the pandemic, the Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou and PTIC-Guangzhou collaborated with the Philippine Franchise Association to support the expansion of Filipino franchisees, such as Potato Corner, particularly in South China.

In 1992, Potato Corner location launched its first location in the Philippines. The following year, it began franchising.

Currently, it has locations in malls, shopping centers, hospitals, bus stops, amusement parks, and tourist spots across a number of nations.
