The PDEA seized marijuana worth P39M hidden in 2 “balikbayan” boxes at the MICP
On March 7, government anti-narcotics authorities carried out an interdiction operation at the Manila International Container Port (MICP), resulting in the seizure of suspected marijuana with an estimated value of P39 million. The contraband was cleverly concealed within two “balikbayan” boxes. Upon inspection, each box revealed a disturbing content: 13 kilograms of suspected dried marijuana leaves stashed inside a drum, alongside an additional three kilograms concealed within a bedsheet. Furthermore, the illicit substance was cunningly hidden amidst three boxes of cereals, showcasing the lengths to which drug traffickers go to evade detection.
This significant operation unfolded at the MICP Designated Examination Area, Container Freight Station 3. Despite the thoroughness of the operation, no arrests were made on-site. However, the individuals responsible for this criminal act will face charges under Section 4 of Republic Act 9165, also known as “The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.”
The collaboration between the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Bureau of Customs, and the Philippine National Police (PNP) underscores the collective effort to combat the illegal drug trade in the country. By pooling their resources and expertise, these agencies aim to disrupt drug trafficking networks and safeguard the well-being of the Filipino populace.
