The military has garnered high trust ratings from the public
According to a survey conducted by OCTA Research in December, almost nine out of 10 Filipinos express trust in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). The poll, conducted from December 10 to 14, revealed that 86 percent of respondents are satisfied with the AFP’s achievements, while only 2 percent express dissatisfaction, resulting in a net satisfaction rating of +84.
The AFP’s satisfaction rating remained largely consistent with its October rating of +83. Across different regions, the AFP received a net satisfaction rating of +85, except in the National Capital Region, where it was slightly lower at +73. The rating increased by 5 points in most areas, except in Mindanao, where it dropped by 3 points.
In terms of socioeconomic classes, the highest net satisfaction rating was recorded among Classes ABC and E, at +87, followed by Class D at +83. Notably, the ABC segment witnessed a significant increase of 14 points, while there was a slight decrease of one point in Class D.
Regarding trust, the survey found that 87 percent of respondents trust the AFP, while only 2 percent express distrust, resulting in a net trust rating of +85. Trust in the AFP was highest in Mindanao, at +89, followed by the Visayas at +88, and lowest in the National Capital Region at +73.
Across different socioeconomic classes, the AFP also received high trust ratings, with Class ABC showing a net trust rating of +87, followed by Class D and E at +84 and +85, respectively.
Reacting to the survey results, Assistant Majority Leader and Lanao del Sur 1st District Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong welcomed the findings, highlighting the AFP’s role in addressing internal security challenges and external threats, particularly in the West Philippine Sea. Adiong emphasized the survey’s importance as an effective tool in dissuading the public from joining radicalized groups.
The survey involved 1,200 respondents and had a margin of error of plus or minus three percent.
