Australian authorities are probing allegations of an altercation involving Taylor Swift’s father, Scott Swift, and a photographer during the singer’s visit to Sydney. According to police spokesperson Alicia McCumstie, the incident purportedly occurred at Neutral Bay Wharf around 2:30 am, with a 71-year-old man accused of assaulting a 51-year-old photographer before leaving the scene.

Though Australian police typically refrain from naming individuals involved in alleged crimes, a law enforcement source and the photographer, Ben McDonald, identified the older man as Scott Swift. McDonald recounted his experience of photographing the pop star on a superyacht in Sydney Harbour following her concert series in the city. Allegedly, Swift’s security team obstructed McDonald’s attempts to take photos, prompting a confrontation with a man later identified as Scott Swift, who allegedly punched McDonald.

McDonald expressed surprise upon discovering the identity of his alleged assailant, initially mistaking him for a local security contractor. However, upon reviewing photos and observing Scott Swift holding hands with Taylor Swift, McDonald realized his identity. He described the incident as unprecedented in his 26-year career.

In response, a spokesperson for Taylor Swift refuted McDonald’s claims and accused unidentified individuals of aggressive behavior towards the singer and her team. The spokesperson alleged that two individuals attempted to approach Taylor Swift aggressively, grabbing at her security personnel and threatening a female staff member.

Taylor Swift’s representative did not directly address the allegations against Scott Swift or provide further details about the incident. The singer is currently on her blockbuster Eras Tour, which is projected to be the highest-grossing musical tour in history, exceeding $1 billion in revenue.

As investigations unfold, fans of Taylor Swift, affectionately known as “Papa Swift,” rallied to his defense online. Despite the controversy, Taylor Swift is scheduled to continue her tour with upcoming performances in Singapore. Police declined to comment on whether Scott Swift had been approached or questioned regarding the incident before the group’s departure.
