PH military implemented a ban on the use of TikTok among its uniformed personnel
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has officially banned military personnel from using TikTok, citing cybersecurity risks associated with the popular social media app. Police Colonel Francel Padilla, AFP spokesperson, announced the ban, stating that it applies to both work and personal phones of military personnel.
Padilla highlighted concerns about TikTok being developed by a Chinese company, despite not being used in China itself. She emphasized the potential risks associated with TikTok and other free apps, which often request access to phone features such as the camera, microphone, and messages, even if their services do not require such access.
The decision to ban TikTok among military personnel aligns with previous considerations by the National Security Council (NSC) to prevent potential data leaks. Similar actions have been taken by other countries, including the United States, India, and Canada, which have announced plans to ban TikTok on government phones and for state workers due to concerns about data privacy and security.
