Paul McCartney has been reunited with his missing bass guitar, a Höfner model that he owned in the 1960s and used on numerous Beatles tracks. The instrument, which McCartney played throughout the Beatlemania era and on hits like “Love Me Do,” “She Loves You,” and “Twist and Shout,” was believed to have been lost during the recording sessions for “Get Back/Let It Be” in January 1969. However, a recent investigation revealed that it was actually stolen in 1972.

The investigation, led by a guitar expert and two journalists, aimed to solve what was deemed “the greatest mystery in rock and roll.” After receiving hundreds of leads and suggestions, the “Lost Bass Project” managed to trace the guitar’s whereabouts, eventually locating it in the attic of a terraced house on the south coast of England.

McCartney expressed his gratitude after the instrument was authenticated by Höfner and returned to him. The guitar, which McCartney purchased for around £30 in Hamburg in 1961, holds significant sentimental value and is considered a piece of Beatlemania history. Despite the original thief being unaware of its significance, the guitar has now been reunited with its rightful owner after nearly five decades.
