PAGASA reported light rain and thunderstorms in various parts of the Philippines
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has forecasted scattered light rains and thunderstorms in most parts of the country due to the easterlies, while the northeast monsoon or “amihan” will continue to affect the Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
As of the 5 a.m. advisory, Pagasa stated that there are no tropical cyclones expected inside or outside the country’s area of responsibility in the upcoming days.
According to weather specialist Benison Estareja, the easterlies, characterized by winds from the east originating in the Pacific Ocean and carrying warm and humid weather, are affecting Eastern Visayas and Caraga. These regions may experience overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
The same weather system, along with localized thunderstorms, will bring isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and other parts of the country within the next 24 hours.
Estareja also noted that hot temperatures have begun to rise in some major cities as the dry season approaches and the effects of the El Niño phenomenon are felt in certain provinces.
Temperature ranges for select cities include 21°C to 32°C for Metro Manila, especially during noon to mid-afternoon; 21°C to 31°C for Laoag City; and 22°C to 33°C for Tuguegarao City.
Meanwhile, Baguio City is expected to maintain its “cool” temperatures ranging from 16°C to 23°C, according to Pagasa’s forecast.
